Evaluation of in vitro toxicity studies

The SciRAP tools have a new format

The SciRAP evaluation tools are now available as downloadable Excel files, instead of online forms. No changes have been made to the criteria. However, the function to weight criteria has been removed. If your work requires the wheighting function, please contact us for an alternative file.

Evaluating reliability and relevance in SciRAP

Download the tool (excel workbook) via the link below. Note that a separate tool is available for in vitro studies on nano-materials. Conduct your evaluation directly in the excel spreadsheet. Detailed instructions are available to download via the link below.

Reliability evaluation

The SciRAP method for evaluating reliability of in vitro toxicity studies consists of criteria for for evaluating reporting quality and methodological quality of studies, separately. Your evaluation may require you to evaluate either reporting or methodological quality, or both.

Relevance evaluation

Whether or not a study is relevant depends on the context within which it is to be used as evidence. The aim of the SciRAP method is to provide guidance and a structured approach for determining the relevance of in vitro toxicity studies for human health risk assessment. To that end, four study aspects should be evaluated under the tab relevance. It is important to note that all listed items do not have to be relevant for the study to serve as evidence in risk assessment.
